Something to think and pray about this week
People ask me all the time, “How do I know if I’m hearing God’s voice or not?” While I don’t have the million-dollar answer to this question, I can tell you this: A way to recognize God’s voice is to spend time praying with Scripture. Scripture is truly the word of God and voice of God. If we want to tune our ear to God’s voice, why not start with what we know is God’s word?
Think about it this way. In a room of young children, I distinctly know when one of my own children is calling out, “Mom!” or when it’s another child. Why? Because I’ve spent hours and hours and hours listening to my children’s voices. My ear is finely attuned to what their voices sound like. I can also typically discern which of my children is calling me. I do not think about this anymore; it’s just something that naturally happens in motherhood—training our ear to our children’s voices. In the same way, as we continue to meditate on God’s word, we become more and more attuned to what God’s voice sounds like to us.
